Today was a good day, New York!
I recently had one of those moments where you have to stop and say, “Wait…is this really happening?”
I had my first television interview as an AUTHOR!
I had the opportunity to sit down with Antwan Lewis, host of FOX 5 NY’s Street Talk, to talk about my new book, When the House Gets Quiet.
If you’ve been following my journey, you know this book came from a very real place. This summer, my twins both left for college—at different schools, just days apart—and suddenly the house that had been filled with their voices, schedules, friends, activities, and all the things that come with raising children became a lot quieter.
And I realized that while I had spent years preparing them for this next chapter, I hadn’t really prepared myself for mine.
That realization became When the House Gets Quiet.
Walking Into FOX 5 as an Author
I’ve worn a lot of hats over the years—wife, mother, marketing professional, entrepreneur, crocheter, instructor, blogger and now author.
But walking into the FOX 5 NY studio to talk about something I had written felt different.
This wasn’t me talking about someone else’s brand or campaign. I was talking about my story, my transition and something I created in hopes of helping other women who are navigating this same season.
Sitting across from Antwan and talking about the book made the whole thing feel a little more real.
I wrote a book.
And now I was sitting in a television studio talking about why I wrote it.
That’s a moment I’m going to remember.
Why I Wrote When the House Gets Quiet
Empty nesting is often talked about in terms of the children leaving, but I wanted to talk about what happens to Mom after they leave.
Who are you when the daily responsibilities of motherhood begin to change?
What dreams did you put on hold?
What parts of yourself are you ready to rediscover?
And most importantly: What comes next?
When the House Gets Quiet is a guided journal designed to help women work through those questions and begin thinking intentionally about the next chapter of their lives.
There are two editions—a Faith-Based Edition that incorporates Scripture and prayer, and a Personal Growth Edition for women who want the same opportunity for reflection and self-discovery without the faith-based component.
Different approaches. Same conversation.
Your children growing up doesn’t mean your story is winding down.
There is still more for you.
Watch Me on Street Talk
My interview with Antwan Lewis on FOX 5 NY’s Street Talk airs Saturday, September 26 at 6:00 AM EST.
Set your DVR because 6 AM is early!
And if you’re entering your own quieter-house season—or you know a mom who is—I hope you’ll join me on this journey.
When the House Gets Quiet is available for pre-order now.
This chapter may look different from the ones that came before.
But I’m learning that different doesn’t mean less.
Sometimes the house has to get quiet so you can finally hear what’s next.
Until next time…
MUAH
