Hey Y’all,
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, although I didn’t post much here this week it was top of mind in other areas of my life.
Most recently I finished the limited series Maid on Netflix – single mother Alex turns to house cleaning to make ends meet as she escapes an abusive relationship and overcomes homelessness to create a better life for her daughter, Maddy. Alex is a 25-year-old mother who was in an emotionally and financially abusive relationship. Often when we think of DV we only think about physical abuse. Domestic Violence is much broader than that.
- Control
- Sexual Abuse
- Emotional Abuse & Intimidation
- Isolation
- Verbal Abuse: Coercion, Threats, & Blame
- Using Male Privilege
- Economic Abuse
And the list goes on. Alex didn’t believe that she was in a DV situation but she was. Recognizing domestic violence isn’t always easy. I had a great conversation with Marq Brown to discuss DV please take a look and think about your relationship and those around you. If you see something please say something. Be a listening ear. If you are experiencing domestic violence there is help available call SafeHorizon’s 24-hour hotline (llámenos para ayudarle) 1-800-621-HOPE (4673).
